Another school movie night
Our school event last week was cancelled, but my goal was to try to do a "before and after" type thing. I have another school movie night tomorrow, so I am trying again.

Below are a few pictures I took last night. The movie will be held in the gymnasium. There was one of those temporary walls dividing the gym in half, so the picture only shows half of the gym. I will be setting up the projector against the left wall (in the picture). I will be using rear projection, as I do almost exclusively. I am using a 15' screen (Hui Yue), so the front of the screen will come out to about the "foul line".

We're not sure yet how many people to expect, I should be talking to the PTA rep later today to get an estimate. Concessions will sold by a local candy shop (we've run several events together before). Food/drinks are not allowed in the gym (I don't think the candy shop knew this before agreeing to run the event, and donate 20% of the proceeds to the school). If people cannot bring food and drinks in the gym while watching the movie, that will really hurt concession sales. I offered to run this outdoor instead, that would surely yield better concession sales, but it might be getting too cold (high of 65 today).

We're showing College Road Trip (PTA handled all licensing through Swank).

The school sent home flyers with the students, and apparently asked for rsvp through phone or email. I think they sent me a copy. I will try to scan it and post it here.

Preliminary estimate is that there should be 100+ people attending. Good news is that they got approval to have food in the gym during the movie (except maybe nachos).

Well, the night went off without problems. We setup the screen on the opposite side of the gym (to my earlier picture) per the PTA rep. The estimate was about 120 to 130 people in attendance. This is actually a pretty good turnout IMHO. It usually takes a few movie nights before attendance peaks (and this was the first event for this school).

A few pictures from the event:

Great before and after. I always forget to take before pics in my events. I will strive to take a ton of pics on the 4th of July.

I remember this event. Man, they were killing me with that darn overhead light. They said they wanted light in the room, even though there was plenty of light coming from the open doors on the right. Great way to kill the image!

Actually the pic of the screen looks to be pretty good. I know it could be darker in teh background, but the screen is usable in this pic.

I knew I had more pictures somewhere. I should have posted these in the first place. You can see the difference in image quality when the lights were off.

Here's another picture with the lights on:

How do you anchor down in that environment?

Don't think you have to indoors. If so, I would think sand bags.
